The Canadian Broadcast Corportaion (CBC) recently released their findings after bringing several laptops and various phones and tablets into different technology repair centers like Best Buy, Mobile Kilnic, and other popular repair centers that offer business services for your end-customer technology needs.

They found that in several cases private data was not only accessed, but was even copied from these devices onto private data storage devices such as USB drives without the end-customers permission or knowledge.

Investigators with the CBC used tracking software and screen recording software to verify exactly what took place while these devices were undergoing repairs, and what they found was surprising.  Although the investigators found that the majority of the time their devices that were brought in were repaired without incident, on several notable occasions during their reporting, a cell phone’s Facebook account was accessed and scrolled through, and in another case a Windows Laptop brough in for a flickering screen, had it’s photo’s library  not only accessed but copied onto a USB hard drive.

Entrusting your business and corporate technology to a break-fix repair shop is not only a poor and inconsistent way of keeping your IT operations running, but it could also lead to very serious risk of data loss or tampering.  This is why it’s important to work with a Managed Services Provider who specializes in keeping your IT infrastructure, including workstations, servers, and networking equipment monitored and running 24/7.

Maximize Efficiency and Growth: Managed Services Providers Empower Small and medium-Sized Businesses

  1. Cost-Effective IT Solutions

One of the primary benefits of partnering with an MSP is cost-effectiveness. SMBs typically have budget constraints that can make it challenging to maintain an in-house IT department. An MSP offers a cost-efficient alternative by providing access to a team of skilled professionals who manage your IT needs at a fraction of the cost of hiring a full-time staff.

  1. Proactive IT Maintenance and Support

An MSP doesn't just respond when issues arise; they actively monitor your systems, networks, and applications to identify and address potential problems before they disrupt operations. This proactive approach minimizes downtime, ensuring your business runs smoothly and efficiently.

  1. Enhanced Security and Compliance

Cybersecurity threats are a constant concern for businesses of all sizes. SMBs are not exempt from these risks, and a security breach can have devastating consequences. An MSP employs advanced security measures, including firewalls, antivirus software, and regular security audits, to protect your business from cyber threats. Moreover, they can help you stay compliant with industry-specific regulations and data protection laws.

  1. Scalability and Flexibility

As your business grows, so do your IT needs. An MSP is equipped to scale its services in tandem with your business expansion. Whether you need additional storage, increased bandwidth, or more advanced software solutions, an MSP ensures that your IT infrastructure can accommodate your evolving requirements.
